I Havn’t a clue what to get my hubby for valentines day, are you the same? and as we’re saving like mad to get our kitchen finished, I didn’t want to spend a fortune so after racking my brain all day I decided to bake, it doesn’t cost the earth and the only things a had to buy were mini love hearts, and chocolate hearts for decoration, as I had all the other ingredients already in. My hubby loves something sweet after dinner and so do I! it’s a win win :). These are my easy to make Valentines day cakes made with love!
I always make the same cake mixture for twelve cakes;
110g Caster Sugar
110g Self Raising Flour
1 Teaspoon of Baking Powder.
I mix the flour, caster sugar, and baking powder together, then add the eggs and butter and whisk all together in the bowl. Once its all mixed together I then put a good teaspoonful in each bun case, trying to make them all as even as I can, and place them in the oven at about 180c fan/200c electric/gas mark 6 for about 15 minutes or till golden brown. Then take them out of the oven and leave to cool before decorating them. If you like this recipe you may like to check out my easy to make homemade soup
Decorating the cakes is my favourite bit! you can make your own butter icing, but I cheated today as I had some left from baking the other week and I didn’t want to waste it, well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! also James is grabbing at my legs and I need to get them finished before daddy gets home, you know how it is! After icing them I just placed a chocolate heart in the centre of the cake then I placed three mini love heart sweets in front, I think they look pretty good if I do say so myself! 😉 The only thing left to do is to get the kettle on and get stuck in! Have a lovey Valentines day with your loved ones.
