A couple of weeks ago I was working from home and the weather was so bad that the wind got hold of my parasol in the garden and lifted it up, like something out of a Mary Poppins film! then came crashing down and shattered into a million pieces all over the patio, I couldn’t believe it! A simple and easy way to improve the look way to of an outside table and not wanting to spend a fortune on buying a new one, I suggested to my hubby that we could use a few of the tiles that we bought for our kitchen floor, another job on our list of to do’s! 😉
As you can see it had totally shattered and I spent hours clearing it all away, I was still at it a few days later it went everywhere, a bloody nightmare! and with having Little man and Molly I had to make sure there all the glass was cleared away.
A few days later when the weather picked up my hubby cracked on to make me a new table top, luckily for us we didn’t have to buy anything as our house as been like a building site for over two years and my hubby doesn’t throw anything away, unlike me!
So he measured the size of the table top and cut the marine plywood, we had left from boarding our kitchen floor, down to size.
Then using the tiles we’d already bought he arranged the tiles on top of the plywood to see how we wanted them to look and to measure for the cuts. After they were all cut to size my hubby then applied pre-mixed tile adhesive, which we also had in 😉 and laid them down using tile spacers for even gaps. After 24hours when the tile adhesive had dried he then used a light grey grout to fill in the gaps using a grout float for an even and smooth finish.
This was little man and me today enjoying our new look table top, I was so pleased how it turned out, and it has totally changed the way the whole patio set looks, plus it does give me an idea of what my kitchen floor will look like when hubby gets round to doing it 😉 and I think I would go a little darker with the grey grout on my floor, so not to show every little bit of dirt, not that I’m trying to get out of cleaning it’s just is a bug bear of mine when grout starts to discolour, so there’s an upside too the outside table being shattered.
It has also made the table a lot more study and I feel it’s so much safer with my little man now climbing up on everything he can! I have to give my good friend Sarah of https://extraordinarychaos.com/ a mention as it was because of seeing a post Sarah did that I thought of using tiles for my outside table,so thanks for the idea 🙂
I think it’s a really simple and easy way of improving the look of an outside table and would love to know what you think? We hope to enjoy sitting round our new and improved table through the summer here’s to many more sunny day’s 🙂
