I was so excited get the chance to review this amazing digital book. Galdo’s Gift by Trevor Young & Elenor Long. As one of my favourite times of the day is when I sit down with James and we read together. As soon as I downloaded Galdo’s Gift and tapped play we were transported to the most enchanted Kingdom with magical music playing in the background then greeted by King Galdo, a very royal frog, saying, “come on, come on, what’s taking so long. This is taking forever!” my son and I were totally hooked and we couldn’t stop smiling, I knew this was going to be something special. . James loved tapping on King Galdo to hear what he had to say, he said “he has a funny voice,” and kept repeating after him, trying to copy his voice, we both couldn’t stop laughing! what is there not to love 🙂 This book has a real classic feel to it. I would love it to be published as a hard back as it’s so beautifully illustrated.
This magical story takes you through the Kingdom of Galdovia where King Galdo askes four hero’s to take on a dangerous quest to find a rare gift for his special guest. During their quests each character has to fight off some amazing animals! As you go through this magical kingdom you feel like you’re actually there, willing them to win each of their quests.
King Galdo is such a lovable character with his very royal presence, a huge gold medallion round his neck, and tiny gold crown on his head! you can’t help but feel he’s there to help guide you through this magical enchanted story every step of the way. As he narrates the story you feel King Galdo is encouraging you to read with him. Any words you feel your child doesn’t understand you just tap on the word to open a fun pop-up definition, which I think is brilliant to help develop your child’s vocabulary. James just like tapping on the words to see what popped up!
The first character you come across in the story is Sir Strompoff, how great is that for a name! Ready to complete his dangerous quest on his “shimming steed,” such a funny looking knight. James loved him with his big mighty sword, and funny little face.
The next character is Brendara, my favourite… with her huge purple hair! battling her way through her quest fighting off “blasting bloodsucking bats,” what is there not to love! I only wish I had a machine like hers, amazing!
Master Mustafo was James favourite character as he loves anything to do with the sea at the moment! with his big bright red beard he’s someone you definitely wouldn’t mess with!
Last but not least Dandy Doogood who’s another funny little character, and great head of hair! Dealing with “dire dragons,” will he come up with the rare and precious gift King Galdo desires to please his special guest? I’ll leave you with that thought. I don’t want to spoil the story but all the way through you just can’t wait to swipe the page to see what happens next!
There’s a great finale to this enchanted tale with a magical twist to the end! There’re also hidden extra’s within the book to encourage off screen time, like printing off and creating your own character’s. Hidden numbers to find throughout the book to unlock extra content, which gives you that extra added value for money 🙂
Even though my son is only 30 months old he absolutely loved this funny enchanting tale. I can see this being a children’s classic. With all the illustration’s beautifully put together. The story comes alive right before your eyes! I really enjoyed this magical story with all the interaction that makes reading fun with your kids. I think this will appeal to young and old, and would definitely recommend this book. As we’re all big kids at heart, aren’t we!
